My Experience with Berkeley Group Plc's Work Experience Program

Day 1: Online Learning and Insight

The first day was conducted online, and we engaged in three different tasks focusing on finance, technical aspects, and floor planning. These tasks were quite challenging, but with expert guidance from the Berkeley team, I gained invaluable insights into the diverse roles and functions within property development.

Day 2: Team Challenges and Creativity

The second day featured two more interactive tasks,

which were done in teams. Our first challenge was to identify building timelines and the order of construction processes. The afternoon session was the highlight—we had to come up with a development concept for a brownfield site, including creating a logo and an advertising campaign. Thanks to the support from Young Professionals, our team excelled and won the challenge!

Day 3: Site Visit at Eden Grove

On the final day, we visited the Eden Grove development site. We split into two groups: one went 'snagging' apartments, checking for any issues, while my group toured the site from the basement to the roof—15 stories high! This hands-on experience offered a unique perspective on construction hazards and the intricate checks involved in building homes, providing insights that I couldn’t have gained behind a screen.

I want to extend my gratitude to Young Professionals for organising this incredible opportunity and to Berkeley Group Plc for their support, especially Liza Smith, Danny Taylor, and Lewis Grieve, for making the in-person experience so engaging and educational. This work experience truly broadened my understanding of the construction and property development industry.
